Walk With Me: using community-engaged research to reduce harm and confront the toxic drug poisoning in small BC cities

New Publication: The article “Walk With Me: reducing harm and confronting the toxic drug poisoning crisis in small British Columbia cities through community-engaged research” is now available. This article is the result of a research project led by Dr. Marnie in the Comox Valley of Vancouver Island, BC.

The project aims to understand the toxic drug poisoning crisis in small communities and identify local harm reduction interventions. It uses community-engaged methodologies grounded in pluralist knowledge production. The research team is focused on developing a harm reduction initiative through community partnerships and diverse ways of understanding the issue.

The “Walk With Me” framework is detailed in the article, which uses story walks, creative practice, and sharing circles to mobilize lived experience wisdom within research contexts. The project seeks to support community-driven systems and policy change, working towards new understandings and practices of community well-being and belonging.
